New White Co. school already overcrowded

CLEVELAND - About 30 students who started the new school year two weeks ago at the new Mossy Creek Elementary School in White County are going to have to leave.

The reason? They do not live in the Mossy Creek attendance area.

And, according to the school superintendent, had been told they would not be allowed to stay at the new school if it ended up being overcrowded - and that's what has happened.

White Co. Schools Superintendent Paul Shaw said the parents of students from out of the district were told in April that if the school became too crowded that their child would have to move back to their original school.

Shaw said several parents took advantage of going outside their attendance zone, and now the school has too many students, meaning about 30 students will have to be moved to another school.

Shaw said four grades are overcrowded.
