Ga. veterans aid groups receive $5.7 million

ATLANTA (AP) Georgia community organizations that work with homeless or at-risk veterans have received more than $5.7 million in federal grants. <br /> <br /> The Department of Veterans Affairs announced the awards Tuesday as part of meeting a 2009 promise to end veteran homeless by 2015. Nationwide, the agency announced about $300 million in grants. <br /> <br /> The awards to Georgia organizations include: $1.09 million to Central Savannah River Area Economic Opportunity Authority, Inc. in Augusta; $1.02 million to Action Ministries, Inc. in Atlanta; about $560,000 to Decatur Cooperative Ministry, Inc. in Decatur; $1.02 million to Travelers Aid of Metropolitan Atlanta, Inc. in Atlanta and $2 million to United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta. <br /> <br /> The organizations serve counties throughout the state.
