ATHENS - A student accused of posting a threat on social media that prompted the evacuation of a building at the University of Georgia Friday will remain in jail for now.

Ariel Omar Arias was denied bond at his first court appearance Monday, according to a report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The 19-year-old from Lilburn apparently had threatened some type of violence against the Miller Learning Center, prompting the evacuation of the building and closure of surrounding streets.

The building remained closed for about an hour Friday afternoon.

Arias told authorities the threat was a prank, but he was charged with two felony counts of terroristic threats.

He has been in jail since Friday. The newspaper report said that a special bond hearing has been scheduled for Arias Tuesday at 1 p.m.

Arias also has been suspended from the university.
