SUGAR HILL – At a Monday night work session, the Sugar Hill City Council discussed rezoning that would allow an assisted living facility to be built on the corner of Highway 20 and Bailey Avenue in the downtown area.
The project, developed by Solomon Development Services LLC, would include independent living cottages, assisted living cottages, an area for retail, an indoor pool, a wellness center and a theater. City council members also learned at their work session the outside of the development would include sidewalks and a green area that would connect to the downtown area of Sugar Hill. The main building is proposed as a five-story structure with a parking garage below ground.
“Sugar Hill has one of the fastest-growing elderly populations in Atlanta,” said Davis Hunt, president of Solomon Development Services LLC.
Hunt told council members the ballpark cost to live in one of these homes would be $2,500 to $4,000 a month.
The change would allow for rezoning of all lots in the project area to General Business and would expand the Central Business District of the Sugar Hill.
The council holds a public hearing on the plan at its regular meeting Monday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m.
