The North Georgia Community Foundation recently awarded more than $28,500 in grants to fund 15 programs at nonprofit organizations across northeast Georgia.
“We believe one of the best ways to improve the community is to invest in nonprofits working on projects that support and improve the North Georgia region,” said Michelle Prater, NGCF president & CEO. “Each of these grants represents a unique opportunity to take positive action on an important need in our community.”
Community Impact Grants are awarded annually through a competitive process to nonprofit organizations located in the Foundation’s 15-county North Georgia service area, according to a news release from the organization.
Recipients of funding through the 2016 grant cycle:
Hall County
· Gateway Domestic Violence Center for its shelter security enhancement project.
· Habitat for Humanity of Hall County to provide financial education classes for future homeowners.
· Humane Society of Northeast Georgia for its Meals on Wheels Pet Food Pantry program and its humane education and outreach children’s programs.
· United Way of Hall County to create a preschool literacy garden in Gardens on Green.
· WomenSource for its 2017 Girl Power event.
Dawson & Forsyth counties
· Supporting Adoption and Foster Families Together, Inc. to create a scholarship fund for its supervised visitation program.
· Meals by Grace to provide hot, nutritious meals and additional food items to residents in Forsyth and Dawson counties.
Franklin County
· Adults Protecting Children to provide training on child sexual abuse prevention to organizations spanning multiple industries.
Habersham County
· Georgia Baptist Children’s Home for Camp Hawkins, a summer residential camp for youth coping with varying developmental disabilities.
Hart County
· Hart Interdenominational Ministry to provide shelter for those who are homeless.
Rabun County
· Faith, Inc. for trauma focused therapy and crisis counseling.
Stephens County
· Neighbors 4 Neighbors to provide fresh and/or flash-frozen fruits and vegetables to clients.
· Toccoa Soup Kitchen and Shelter to purchase food and other items needed to serve children, the unemployed and seniors.
White County
· Family Promise of White County to provide transportation, housing, food and lifestyle counseling for homeless families.
