A Winder man was killed Monday night when a pickup truck he was riding in went off a road in the Augusta area.
Cody Allen Byrd, 27, of Winder and Laura Wray Washington, 23, of Harlem died when they were ejected from the 2002 Ford F-150, according to Cpt. Clay Smith with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.
The accident happened at 8:50 p.m. on Scotts Ferry Road in the Appling community in Columbia County.
The F-150, driven by Washington, was headed south when it left the roadway. She overcorrected, sending the truck down an embankment, rolling over several times and hitting several trees.
It is unknown at this time whether or not drugs or alcohol played a role in the wreck, but Smith said it is unlikely either victim was wearing a seat belt.
An obituary for Byrd said he attended Winder Christian Church and worked as a landscaper.
Byrd's funeral is set for Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. at Carter Funeral Home in Winder.
