Monday last day to register for next HCSO civilian firearms safety course

The Hall County Sheriff's Office is offering a free firearms safety course geared specifically toward civilians who are new to firearms ownership/and or carry, or those who are in search of formal instruction.

The class is held at the Sheriff's Office firearms training complex, taught by the department's firearms instructors. Seating is limited, but the course is offered on an ongoing basis.

The next course is set for Saturday, August 19, with two time slots to choose from: 8:00-12:00 or 1:00-5:00.

And, Monday is the deadline to sign up.

Participant Requirements:

Must be a Hall County resident, 21 years or older; a person 18 years old to 20 years old may attend with a family member age 21 or older, who must remain with the participant throughout the course.

Must have a valid photo ID and pass a preliminary background check.

Approved handguns only; weapon must be free of defects and subject to inspection. Participants must provide their own weapons and ammunition. Calibers ranging from .22 to .45 are acceptable. Centerfire or rimfire cartridges only. No black powder, no Derringer style pistols, no shotguns or rifles.

An approved same-side belt holster must be used at all times. Cross draw, shoulder holster, ankle holsters, etc. are prohibited. Participants must provide their own eye and ear protection.

Applications are available at the Hall County Sheriff’s Office records division and must be completed in person.

Additional requirements will be provided upon acceptance to course.
