A house in the 300 block of Ridgewood Avenue in Gainesville was damaged by fire Thursday afternoon.
Gainesville Fire Department spokesman Keith Smith said the call came in about 4:30. Smith says the first firefighters on the scene found light smoke showing from the residence.
"Firefighters worked to quickly extinguish the fire and check for extension," he wrote in an email. "Crews did have to remove sheetrock from the interior of the structure and some siding from the exterior to completely extinguish all smoldering materials."
Smith says that after it was determined that "all fire was extinguished and smoke was removed from the residence," the power was turned back on and residents were allowed to go back inside the home.
He added damages estimates were put at $8,000-$10,000,
