Hall County theft suspect arrested

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

A Hall County Sheriff’s investigator may have started the ball rolling on solving several property crimes when he recently spotted a pickup that was featured in a post on the department's Facebook page Sept. 13.

"On Wednesday afternoon, October 2, the Investigator was driving on Mundy Mill Road in Oakwood when he saw the red Ford pickup truck that was the subject of the BOLO (be on the lookout) for theft," according to an updated posting.  "Once the vehicle was stopped on Reed Circle, the driver was identified as Thomas Robert Johnson, 29, of Gainesville."

The truck, which was stolen out of Dacula, "had been altered since the BOLO was posted," according to the department. "Thomas had painted the chrome bumper, removed the step rails, bed rails and hub caps and welded the lift gate open to make it appear larger."

Meanwhile, Hall County Investigators are working several theft incidents involving the vehicle and suspect, including a case that occurred overnight on September 26 on the campus of North Hall Middle School.
