First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Georgia increased in April compared to March but were down 18.1 percent in Gainesville.
State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says claims statewide increased 11.9 percent and were also up in nine of Georgia's 14 metropolitan areas. The biggest increase was in Warner Robins, 45.3 percent.
At 18.1 percent, Gainesville led those Metropolitan Statistical Areas that showed decreases.
