A 19-year-old woman was arrested early Friday morning for posting a bomb threat against Hall County school system on Twitter, the sheriff’s office said.
Destiny Kaila Sanchez of Payne Road has been charged with terroristic threats and the disruption of a public school. She was arrested without incident at about 3:30 a.m. at a residence on the 2000 block of Broadway Drive in Gainesville. She is being held without bond in the Hall County Jail.
Authorities were notified about the online threat by a Michigan woman who came across the tweet while searching the internet for information about a bomb threat in her own area. Sheriff’s deputies immediately notified the school system, and investigator began searching for the person who made the threat, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
The investigation uncovered information that led deputies to execute several search warrants that result in Sanchez’s arrest.
While investigators worked the case, school resource officers and other deputies searched the county schools. Explosive ordinance dogs were on stand-by, the department said.
Early Friday, before school started, Superintendent Will Schofield said in an email that a suspect had been arrested. He said the suspect was a former student on probation for previous bomb threats.
"We look forward to another normal and safe day in the Hall County School District," Schofield said in the statement. "Thank you to our incredible partners at the Hall County Sheriff’s Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. I apologize for the stress this incident caused our community."
In a message on Facebook, Craig Herrington, member of the Hall County Board of Education, thanked law enforcement officers for quickly dealing with the threat.
“The local sheriff’s office and GBI did an incredible job and always do when it comes to the safety of our children,” he said.
