Detectives find dozens of pornographic images on Gainesville sex offender's phones

By B.J. Williams

A registered sex offender is back in jail after Hall County Sheriff's Office investigators found 85 sexually explicit images of children on phones in his possession.

HCSO spokesman Derreck Booth said a cyber tip from the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force pointed detectives to the home of Juan Daniel Martinez, 42, on Truelove Road last month.

"Investigators notified the Gainesville Field Office of the Georgia Department of Community Supervision," Booth said. "DCS officers met with the offender on Dec. 13, 2019, seized several phones from him and arrested him for a probation violation."

Booth said investigators then conducted forensic processing on the phones and found dozens of images of children engaged in sexually explicit photos, both alone and with adults.

After that discovery, Martinez was served charges at the Hall County Jail, where he has been incarcerated since his arrest in December.

Booth said the investigation into the Martinez case is ongoing.
