An East Hall High School teacher was injured Wednesday while trying to break up a fight between two students.
Jhonny David Mendez, 18, of Lula was taken into custody Friday morning on charges related to a fight that occurred on March 8 at East Hall High School.
According to a press release from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Mendez and another student were involved in a fight around 12 p.m. The teacher tried to break up the fight and was allegedly kicked in the face during the scuffle.
According to the Director of Community Relations with the Hall County School system, Stan Lewis, another employee allegedly received a scratch on his neck trying to help break up the fight.
The school opted to proceed with charges against Mendez.
He is charged with felony battery against a teacher/school personnel and misdemeanor affray.
He remains in the Hall County Jail as of the last report.
