The City of Gainesville has provided a reason as to why the partial closure of a road has been extended.

According to the City's Facility Operations Engineer Robert Simmons, crews encountered a "large amount of rock."

Simmons said that the rock required contractors to get a different piece of equipment for removal.

The City felt it necessary to extend the closure of Valley Road between Crepe Myrtle Lane and Blue Ridge Drive from April 11 to April 18 to allow crews the time for the removal and water main improvements.
