ATLANTA (AP) A 30-year-old man who told police his girlfriend committed suicide has been charged in her death.
DeKalb County police arrested Antoine Hood on Friday and charged him with the murder of 28-year-old Candace McGriff.
Authorities told WAGA-TV that Hood called 911 on Tuesday and reported that McGriff shot herself when he tried breaking up with her. Police found her shot in the chest in the couple's bedroom in Lithonia.
Hood was questioned, and then released.
Officials said an autopsy revealed evidence that the shooting was not a suicide.
Hood was being held at the DeKalb County Jail. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.
The victim was a physical education teacher at C.J. Hicks Elementary in Conyers. Grief counselors will be available to meet with students Monday.
