FORT VALLEY, Ga. (AP) Police say a person with a knife attacked and killed a Fort Valley State University student on the school's main campus in central Georgia.
Campus Safety Police Chief Kenneth Morgan in a news release identifies the victim as Donnell M. Phelps, a freshman agriculture engineering technology student from Marshallville, Georgia.
School officials say the suspect also stabbed campus safety officer Ernest Johnson during the attack Tuesday afternoon near the main campus gate at Fort Valley State, which is in Fort Valley.
Fort Valley State said in the news release that the suspect, whom they didn't identify, was taken into custody on campus shortly after the killing.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation with help from campus police.
Fort Valley is about 29 miles southwest of Macon.
