The one-county Gainesville metro recorded another all-time low in unemployment for November, according to Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler.
The jobless rate of 1.5% was a decrease of two-tenths of a point from October. The 2020 unemployment rate for Gainesville was 3.4%
Butler said while the number is good news for employees, it means businesses are struggling to find workers.
"We are seeing the highest number of employed Georgians in our state’s history,” Butler said in his monthly report. “Looking towards the new year, our focus is on attracting more people to join the workforce in 2022.”
Additional information from the November report for Gainesville:
- The labor force increased in Gainesville by 765 and ended the month with an all-time high of 106,469. That number is up 2,319 when compared to November of 2020.
- Gainesville finished the month with an all-time high of 104,840 employed residents. That number increased by 944 over the month and is up by 4,207 when compared to the same time a year ago.
- Gainesville ended November with an all-time high of 97,800 jobs. That number increased by 1,100 from October to November and increased by 3,500 when compared to this time last year.
- The number of unemployment claims decreased by 29% in Gainesville in November. When compared to last November, claims were down by about 87%.
Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 1,646 active job postings in Gainesville for November.
