Fires continue to pop up around the northeast Georgia area as dry conditions are still prevalent. The latest involved an unattended burn pile.
On Wednesday, a third wildfire was reported in White County as the Cleveland Fire Department responded to a report of “thick white smoke”
In the area of Post Road and Cooley Woods Road in Cleveland.
White County Fire Services and White County Emergency Management’s UAS1 drone unit also responded to assist in locating the source of the smoke.
Crews quickly identified an active woods fire, and then the Georgia Forestry was requested to assist with containing the fire. With coordination from all of the agencies, the fire was fully contained. Approximately 3.6 acres were affected by the brush fire.
The burn pile was left unattended for two days after it was believed to have been extinguished.
With current hazardous fire conditions, fire officials are urging everyone to inspect any recent burn piles and confirm they are fully extinguished.
